The Be Back Bus and Excuse City

I got this from a Blog and tweaked it here and there.  I really liked the point is was trying to get across. I may even post it on the fanpage if you want me to.

The ‘Be Back Bus’ from Excuse City Posted on October 6th, 2011 by Bill in Insights Taekwondo

How many times have you heard someone say, I’ll be back!, when they quit a team sport or quit school or some other activity? How many times have you been guilty of the same thing? Maybe you always meant to write a particular letter or finish a certain project around the house. Perhaps you had set goals of improving your health through fitness, losing a little weight or perhaps to finally quit smoking. It is very easy to talk about, but much more difficult to follow through on. This is what I call riding on the ‘Be Back Bus’.

The Be Back Bus is what people are riding on when they say things such as, “I’m gonna quit for now, but I’ll be back when school is out.” Or, “I’m gonna take a break from it a while, but I’ll be back.” Most of the time when people say these things they do not return and finish whatever it was that they had started. Once someone gets aboard the Be Back Bus, it is very difficult to get off of it. This is because they mistakenly believe that the Be Back Bus will take them where they want to go. However, there is only one destination for the Be Back Bus, and that place is Excuse City.

Excuse City is the place we all wind up if we do not set S.M.A.R.T goals for ourselves and then act to achieve them. Excuse City is full of people who wish they would have completed something that they had always meant to but never seemed to have found the time for. Excuse City is full of people who wish that they had it better than they do, but that have many excuses for not trying harder or for not sticking to their goals. The Be Back Bus picks you up in Excuse City and drives you past all the places you meant to go, the things you meant to complete, and then it takes you back to where you started, Excuse City.

The only way out of Excuse City is to avoid the Be Back bus and start actively doing whatever is required to achieve your goals. In Martial Arts, as in life, goals and ambitions are easy to define, but much harder to achieve. If your true desire is to be a black belt, there is only one way to achieve that goal, and that is to write down your goal then train hard and often and stick with it for years through the thick and thin of it. It is not enough in life to talk the talk. One must also walk the walk. In other words, the time to apply yourself toward your goals is now. In the end, when all is said and done, all that matters is what you were able to get things done…and not excuses!  You will need to write down, define and put deadlines on your goals otherwise they are just wishes and dreams!!!

Post Forms Videos so you can go here and watch the Forms/Poomse/Hyung you and/or your child need to practice.

Post more info on the history of martial arts and our lineage.

Post more on FB with info pertinent to health, wellness, fitness, nutrition, exercise,  bullying, self defense, etc…

Publish my Bullying Defense Book, I’ve been working on since August 2017.

Work on my own personal training more by stretching everyday, eating healthier, and reading more.

School Closing and Inclement Weather Closing Policy

We adhere to the Alton School District and the local school districts policies on closing during inclement weather.

However, as with any school closing we advise you to use your best judgement if the roads are clear by 2pm or earlier we will have classes unless the weather is too cold and/or icy weather is expected later in the evening.

Check our FB Fanpage link to see if we are having classes as this will be the quickest notification platform.

Since most of our student population is from the Alton/East Alton/Wood River Area, if these schools are closed we will be as well.

When the weather is bad if the weekend looks better we will post on FB the Makeup Class Schedule for that weekend.  We will try to remain open as much as possible during the Winter season after our Holiday Break just realize if we are open and you can’t make it due to roads not being plowed, too much ice on roads, etc…. Don’t get into an accident just to make it to class.  We will not be responsible for your decision just as much as we appreciate it when you keep yourself and/or your child home when they are sick with a cough, fever, sore throat or anything that can be contagious and spread to the other students and/or instructors.

Promotional Testings are typically not rescheduled due to inclement weather however, again there can be exceptions.  Please watch the weather forecast and keep our FB fanpage as a favorite bookmark or app.

Thank You
